XL Bullys

9th January 2024

As of 31st December 2023:

  • All XL Bully dogs will have to wear a suitable muzzle and be kept on the lead when in any public place.
  • It will be against the law to sell, rehome, breed or abandon an XL Bully dog.

As of 1st February 2024:

It will be a criminal offence to own an XL Bully in England and Wales unless you have a certificate of exemption.

To apply for a certificate of exemption you will have to ensure the following has been done:

  • Your dog must be neutered
  • You will need 3rd party public liability insurance
  • Your dog will need to be microchipped.
  • There is a fee payable to the government of £92.40 per dog.

Following the recent ban on XL Bully dogs, please follow the link below for the official government guidance. If you own an XL Bully, you will have to apply for a certificate of exemption which can be presented to police if required.

At PHP we will do our best to support owners with the requirements needed for exemption certificates so please contact us if you have any questions about your pet.
